COVID 19 Policy

During these hard times we wanted to make sure our children and families were and felt supported. We have taken the time to update many of our systems, including our policies and procedures. Alongside our Improvement Plan, we identified that we needed to develop this further to focus on Corvid-19. Working together, we have developed an action plan that explores a number of areas for development necessitated by the need to ensure we provide a safe working practice for our staff and users.

This action plan also needed to reflected the current financial situation, to ensure service viability acknowledging the need for parents to feel secure that we can continue to provide childcare. The Action Plan Included Health & Safety, Safe Recruitment and Financial Viability. Please take a look at our COVID-19 Action Plan. This is an action plan that will change as situations change, and we very much welcome user involvement and contributions.

Here are some of the things that we focussed on during Lockdown

Keeping you up to date

Parents information letters and newsletters were posted to our service users during lockdown. During this time, we also invited our parents to join us monthly in zoom meetings for question and answer sessions. These sessions not only allowed us to stay in touch and update all interested parties on the service, but provided everyone with an opportunity to identify and discuss any concerns both you and we had.

Due to the current ongoing recommendations, we intend to hold regular zoom drop in sessions to allow parents to speak to the staff either as a group or individually. We realise that for new starts, particularly our Primary 1’s, that this has been a particularly difficult time. I hope you understand that we acknowledge this and aim to break down barriers that have impacted our transitional procedures.

  PPE

To help stop the spread of the virus all services have been provided with the required PPE ie. Gloves, Aprons, Visors, Masks, hand sanitizers and Disinfectants and will be using these in accordance to government guidelines. We have also updated our cleaning logs to ensure compliance with government guidance.

  Recruitment

We wanted to ensure that we will help support you in our return to continuous employment. We acknowledge that to do so we need to be able to still operate in the event of staff absenteeism particularly is any staff members are required to take leave of absence, with little or no notice due to COVID-19. During lockdown we focussed on recruitment. We have recruited additional staff to allow this, and also to offer better staff: child ratios for safer distancing. Additional staff allows us to work in smaller groups. Please be aware that staff may be required on a temporarily basis to cover other services and were possible this movement will be minimal. Robust recruitment was followed during lockdown. Please feel confident that all newly appointed staff were recruited through our safe recruitment procedures and this includes a Disclosure check. Each recruited staff member undertook a wide range of online training prior to our return to ensure a wide knowledge base of safety within our settings.

RISK ASSESSMENTS
To ensure a safe and secure return to our services, it is important that our risk assessments reflected the current pandemic. We have produced more specific risk assessments for the service as a whole, and also for individuals in alignment with the current Scottish government guidelines. If you feel your child needs a more specific risk assessment, then please contact the service so we can put in place an appropriate risk assessment for your child.

SUPPORTING OUR SERVICE USERS AND OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
We are proud of the work our service has done over lockdown. Not only with the staff training and safe recruitment, but also for the care and support offered to our families. Over lockdown we provided:

• Family entertainment fun packs with household necessities
• Family Quiz events with Sir James via Zoom
• Storytelling and drama workshops with Wicked Productions via Zoom
• A Zoo lab interaction event via Zoom
• Parents meetings via Zoom

Phew….and for our families and our local community we also had our weekend treat. One summer weekend we provided afternoon teas for 250 people to enjoy, alongside online family entertainment. I am very proud that the staff rallied together to serve the boxes and drop boxes off to our more vulnerable families in the local community. If you need support during Covid-19 please go to our links page for various agencies and services offering support.

TRAINING
During the Lockdown period staff were also provided with essential training and guidance to ensure we were fully prepared for our return to service. Staff members participated in essential online training to enhance their knowledge and understanding of safe practice within the setting. Staff already had covered many of this training but nevertheless we revisited many that incorporated changes due to Covid-19. It was important for us that before returning our knowledge reflected the current situation.

Training courses Included:
• Allergy Awareness
• Barbicide
• Child protection
• Covid 19
• Duty of Candour
• First Aid
• Food Hygiene
• Infection Control
• NHS physiological first aid
• PVG signatory

As an organisation we have always ensured that the vast majority of our staff held a recognised First Aid Certificate. Reflecting on the current situation has identified a need that all staff currently need to update their First Aid in response to the virus. We aim to ensure that every staff member is First Aid trained by December 2020.

I hope from the above you will have a full picture of the work and commitment from the service and the staff to ensure we support you and your family to feel secure that we will follow best practice and government guidelines. I hope you feel confident that we will continue to work hard and learn from situations, to continuously develop our model of practice to meet the needs of service users and our staff. We hope that with you and your children support we can work together to ensure we meet your needs and expectations. Please support us by taking part in our data collection to enable us to achieve these aims.
